Mr Samir Hakeem is a highly experienced Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Borders General Hospital, NHS Scotland, with specialist expertise in the full spectrum of foot and ankle surgery.
His practice covers everything from ankle arthritis and subtalar fusions to complex deformity correction, pes cavus and pes planus reconstruction, ankle arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, midfoot surgery, bunion correction, and Charcot foot reconstruction.
Mr Hakeem completed advanced subspecialty fellowships in Foot and Ankle Surgery at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle, and Trauma and Limb Reconstruction at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. His earlier training spanned major trauma centres in Ireland, the UK, and Egypt, giving him a truly global perspective and breadth of expertise in his field.
Academically, he holds an MBBCh with Honours, MSc in Orthopaedic Science, MRCS(Eng), FEBOT, FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedics), and the SICOT Diploma. He has also completed the NHS Leadership Academy Award in Healthcare Leadership Foundations and a Certificate in Healthcare Management from University College Dublin.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Hakeem is an active contributor to orthopaedic research and education — authoring peer-reviewed publications, contributing to leading surgical textbooks, and presenting internationally at EFAS, AOFAS, SICOT, and other renowned conferences.
Passionate about global health, he also leads orthopaedic missions to Ethiopia, delivering surgical care, training, and service development in resource-limited settings — combining his advanced surgical skills with his commitment to making a difference worldwide.
