Anaesthetic Options at Cosmedicare

At Cosmedicare and St. Ellen’s Hospitals, your safety and comfort come first — always. Whether you’re coming in for a minor procedure or major surgery, we know the thought of anaesthesia can feel daunting. That’s why we offer a range of anaesthetic options, tailored to your treatment, your health, and your preferences.

From start to finish, your care is delivered by an experienced clinical team in a purpose-built hospital setting — with the highest standards of monitoring, aftercare, and patient support.

Types of Anaesthesia We Offer

We work closely with you to determine the best anaesthetic plan based on the procedure you’re having, your medical history, and what feels right for you.

1. General Anaesthetic (GA)

You’ll be fully asleep throughout your procedure and closely monitored by a consultant anaesthetist.

Suitable for major surgeries such as:

  • Breast reductions or augmentations
  • Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)
  • Gastric sleeve surgery
  • Gender-affirming top surgery
  • Hernia repairs and other general surgical procedures

You’ll wake up in recovery with full nursing support, and most patients go home the same or next day depending on the procedure.

2. Local Anaesthetic (LA)

A numbing injection is used to block sensation in the specific area being treated. You’ll be fully awake but won’t feel any pain.

Suitable for Minor Procedures such as:

  • Split earlobe repair
  • Mole removal
  • Scar revisions
  • Some types of labiaplasty or small skin procedures

Patients can typically walk in and walk out with little to no downtime.

3. Local Anaesthetic with Sedation

This combines numbing of the surgical area with a light sedative to help you stay relaxed, calm, and comfortable — without the need for full general anaesthetic.

Ideal for patients who have mild to moderate surgical anxiety or want a quicker recovery than with GA.

Suitable for mid-level procedures such as:

  • Labiaplasty
  • Smaller liposuction areas
  • Revision surgery
  • Fat transfer procedures

You’ll likely remain conscious but deeply relaxed, and you may not remember the procedure at all.

What About Needle Phobia or Anxiety?

You’re not alone — many patients feel nervous about anaesthesia, IVs, or the unknown. At Cosmedicare, we take time to:

  • Talk through all your options
  • Offer pre-sedation techniques if needed
  • Adjust plans based on your comfort level
  • Ensure you’re fully informed and in control

We never minimise your concerns — we listen, support, and plan accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I feel anything during surgery?
Not with GA or LA done properly — your team will confirm full numbness or sleep before starting.

How long will it take to wake up?
Most patients are awake within 30–60 minutes after GA. With sedation or LA, you’ll usually be up and about much quicker.

Is anaesthesia safe?
Yes. For the vast majority of patients, modern anaesthesia is extremely safe — especially in a hospital setting like ours, with full emergency backup and trained staff.
