Labiaplasty is a personal procedure — but for many women, it’s also a deeply empowering one.
Whether you’re seeking relief from discomfort, improved symmetry, or greater confidence in your body, labiaplasty is a safe and commonly performed surgery that can enhance both function and appearance in the intimate area.
At Cosmedicare and St. Ellen’s Hospitals, we provide confidential, specialist-led labiaplasty surgery in a supportive, medical environment — always with your goals, comfort, and dignity at the centre.
What is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces and reshapes the labia minora — the inner lips of the vulva. In some cases, it may also include work on the labia majora (outer lips) or clitoral hood, depending on your individual needs.
It’s commonly chosen for reasons including:
- Physical discomfort during exercise or intimacy
- Visibility or self-consciousness in clothing or swimwear
- Asymmetry or excess tissue following childbirth, ageing, or genetics
- A desire for improved appearance or confidence
Labiaplasty Techniques
There are two main surgical techniques used, depending on your anatomy and aesthetic goals:
1. Trim Method
The most common approach. This involves removing excess tissue along the edge of the labia minora for a neater, smoother contour.
- Simpler technique
- Removes darkened or uneven edges
- Ideal for patients wanting a more subtle shape
2. Wedge Method
Removes a V-shaped section from the thickest part of the labia, preserving the natural edge and colour.
- Maintains natural contour
- Suitable for thicker labia with good elasticity
- Slightly longer healing time
Your surgeon will discuss which technique is best suited to your anatomy, preferences, and lifestyle.
Additional Options
Depending on your goals, you may also consider combining labiaplasty with one or more of the following:
- Clitoral Hood Reduction: If excess skin over the clitoris causes discomfort or aesthetic concern, a small reduction of the hood can improve symmetry and sensation. This is often performed alongside labiaplasty for balanced results.
- Labia Majora Fat Transfer: In patients with deflation or volume loss in the outer labia (labia majora), fat transfer can restore fullness and a more youthful contour. This involves using your own fat — typically from the abdomen or thighs — and carefully injecting it to the area for natural, long-lasting results.
Both options are entirely optional and tailored to each patient’s individual anatomy and wishes.
Anaesthetic & Sedation Options
At Cosmedicare, we offer a range of options to suit your comfort level and recovery needs:
- Local Anaesthetic (LA): Ideal for smaller procedures with minimal downtime
- Local Anaesthetic + Sedation: A calming option that keeps you relaxed but not fully asleep
- General Anaesthetic (GA): Often preferred for combined or more complex procedures
You’ll discuss all options during your consultation — and together, we’ll decide what’s safest and most comfortable for you.
What’s the Recovery Like?
- Most patients go home the same day
- Mild swelling and bruising is normal in the first week
- Discomfort is usually well managed with pain relief
- Sutures are dissolvable and healing takes 4–6 weeks
- Avoid tight clothing, exercise and intimacy for 4–6 weeks
You’ll have access to full aftercare, post-op advice, and follow-up with your surgeon as standard.
