1. Sort your space

Make sure your home is set up for comfort. Clear a space where you can rest with everything you’ll need close by: pillows, chargers, water, snacks, and any medications.

2. Plan your wardrobe

Loose, soft clothing (preferably front-fastening) will be your best friend after surgery. Think zip-up hoodies, button-down PJs, and easy slip-on shoes.

3. Pre-cook or stock up

Batch-cook meals or prepare easy, nutritious options you can grab when you’re tired. Hydration is key too — aim for water-rich foods and drinks post-op.

4. Lift the pressure

Sort out any work, childcare, or pet care in advance so you can focus fully on healing. Give yourself permission to rest without guilt — recovery isn’t a luxury, it’s part of the process.

5. Stop smoking (seriously!)

Smoking can delay wound healing, increase your risk of complications, and even lead to your surgery being cancelled. Stop as early as possible — your body will thank you.

  • Your surgery bra or post-op garments (if advised)
  • Lip balm, toothbrush, and face wipes
  • Phone + charger
  • Something soft and cosy for the journey home

After Surgery: Recovery Tips

  • Rest — but keep moving (gently): Listen to your body. Rest is essential, but short walks around the house help circulation and reduce risk of blood clots.
  • Take your pain relief as prescribed: Don’t wait for pain to build — stay on top of medication to help your body stay calm and heal smoothly.
  • Keep your follow-up appointments: They’re not just for checking wounds — they’re for checking you. This is your space to ask questions, get reassurance, and stay on track.
  • Don’t rush your return to work, driving or the gym: Even if you feel OK, your body is still healing inside. Always follow your surgeon’s advice on when to resume activities.
  • Nourish your body: Protein, hydration and rest are the unsung heroes of healing. Eat well, drink water, and treat your recovery like the priority it is.
